Create a P2P Files web page

P2P users are your fans, your best customers, and your Street Team. They already know you and already use file sharing software. Don't use generic promotions and advertising designed to promote your web site or for general web visitors. P2Pers will tune it out and won't come back. Instead give P2Pers exactly what they're looking for - direct links to great files and interesting music, artist , and content news.

Create a special P2P files page for your P2P users with your files that you
recommend they share. This is your Street Team.  When they share your files with the rest of the P2P world, they create new fans for you!

Here's what your P2P Files page should contain:

  • What's New. Give your fans and street team a reason to come back!  Post your latest files and tell them about upcoming products, projects, and appearances.

  • File Info. Your P2P Files page is nestled in the comfy confines of your own web site. While the actual file title and metadata are limited, here on your web page you have plenty of room to tell your fans all about your content and files. Be sure to include file size.

  • P2P Magnet file links. Use Magnet file links for convenient downloading. See TopP2P for examples. The user simply clicks on a link to start downloading via TrustyFiles or other software over the P2P network. Magnet link HTML is generated by TrustyFiles. To create Magnet links:
    1. Digitize your files.
    2. Download TrustyFiles
    3. Run the TrustyFiles installation but do not run the actual program.
    4. Move your files into the Downloads directory. The default location is C:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Downloads.
    5. Run the TrustyFiles program.
    6. Click the MyFiles toolbar button.
    7. Wait a few minutes or until your files appear in the MyFiles directory.
    8. Right click a file and select 'Share with the public' and then 'Add File Magnet Link to your web page'.
    9. Copy the magnet link text.
    10. Paste the magnet link text into your web page HTML.
    11. Repeat for each file.

  • Web file links. Host your digital files on your web site so your fans and Street Team can directly download and then share them to "seed" the network. Seeding is the process of placing files on the P2P networks. When users run a search for a file and can regularly find multiple download sources, then the file is said to be seeded. If you have large files or limited web site bandwidth you may want limit web link availabllity for a restricted time or at least until the network appears seeded.

  • Stuff. Last but not least, don't forget to sell your wares - CDs, DVDs, software, merchandise, etc. Your fans want to support you!
